If there are words to describe what it’s like being in Iceland, I don’t have them. Everywhere there is evidence of volcanic, glacial, and tectonic activity.  There are landscapes scoured of all life by massive floods caused by volcanos erupting under glaciers. Lava fields, ragged mounds of frozen magma, dominate most of the landscape. Some of the flows are black as coal, others are covered with soft green mosses and lichen.
